Sophia Beckmon, a recent graduate of Oregon City High and an Illinois signee representing Inner Circle Track Club in Oregon, repeated as champion in the women's 17-18 division with a wind-legal 21-2.75 (6.47m) effort in the third round at the USATF National Junior Olympic Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. Beckmon, who won a pair of NACAC U23 gold medals in the long jump and 4x100-meter relay in Costa Rica, eclipsed the 1994 USATF National Junior Olympic Championship meet record of 20-10.50 (6.36m) established by Angela Henry.
